Together Alone, 2006
My piece will be set up like a private or personal space (such as a bedroom) which people are welcome to use or relax in and watch a number of movies that were part of a selection in a film guide called "151 Cinema". I found it interesting that the book critiques mostly art and rare films, some of which are really hard to find in Thailand. These movie critiques are like propaganda in the way it pulls interest from people to these films. It also results in a gap between the information and ideas that you are exposed to and the reality of what those films are really like. I want to lessen this gap by creating a stage of possibilities. I have been finding as many of the films featured in the book as I can and have made them available to the audience. The layer of ideas surrounding the piece involve issues about copyrighting, human rights, individualizing and publicizing processes, private and public areas, external and internal borders, limitations on capitalism and so on.
